Enabling the Kill Switch in the Windows App

Introduction

A kill switch stops your PC from sending traffic over the open internet if the VPN drops. With it enabled, Windows will not leak your real IP while the VPN Safe app reconnects.

Use the official VPN Safe Windows app for this setting. This is not the generic WireGuard client.

Enable the kill switch

  1. Open the VPN Safe Windows app.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Turn on Enable Kill switch.

Leave the kill switch on whenever you want the tunnel to be all-or-nothing — for example streaming, torrents, public Wi-Fi, or any session where an IP leak matters.

What happens when it is on

  • If the VPN is connected, traffic goes through the encrypted tunnel only.
  • If the VPN disconnects, internet access is blocked until the app reconnects.
  • Your real IP is not used as a fallback.

If a site or local device (printer, NAS, or LAN share) stops working, the kill switch is doing its job. Turn it off only if you need that local access, then turn it back on afterwards.

Check it is working

  1. Connect to a VPN Safe server.
  2. Confirm the kill switch is enabled in Settings.
  3. Disconnect the VPN in the app. Your browser should lose internet access rather than fall back to your ISP.
  4. Reconnect. Browsing should resume through the VPN.

If you cannot find Enable Kill switch, update the Windows app from vpnsafe.net/windows and look again under Settings.
