WireGuard on Linux terminal (easy)

Introduction

On Linux you import a VPN Safe WireGuard .conf from the Client Area and bring it up with wg-quick. This replaces any third-party generator — use only files from your VPN Safe account.

Configs: Client Area > VPN service > city > WireGuard config.
Packages: wireguard.com/install

1. Install WireGuard

Ubuntu / Debian

sudo apt update && sudo apt install wireguard openresolv

Fedora

sudo dnf install wireguard-tools

Arch

sudo pacman -S wireguard-tools

2. Import the config

  1. Download the .conf (example acc465234913-London-1-10GB.conf).
  2. Copy it into WireGuard’s config directory. The filename becomes the interface name, so keep it simple:
sudo install -m 600 ~/Downloads/acc465234913-London-1-10GB.conf /etc/wireguard/wg0.conf

Use a new config for this Linux box. Do not reuse a phone or Windows key.

3. Connect and disconnect

sudo wg-quick up wg0
sudo wg show
curl -s https://vpnsafe.net/whats-my-ip
sudo wg-quick down wg0

wg show should list a peer, a handshake, and transfer counters. If there is never a handshake, UDP 51820 is blocked or the config was already used on another device.

4. Start on boot (optional)

sudo systemctl enable --now wg-quick@wg0

To stop on boot: sudo systemctl disable --now wg-quick@wg0.
