Importing a WireGuard Config on macOS
Introduction
Mac uses the official WireGuard app from the Mac App Store. Import a VPN Safe .conf from the Client Area, then Activate. There is no VPN Safe Mac app in the current downloads.
App: WireGuard on the Mac App Store
Configs: Client Area.
Import and connect
- Install WireGuard from the Mac App Store and open it.
- Download a city
.conffrom the Client Area (Safari may put it in Downloads). - In WireGuard click Import tunnel(s) from file, or drag the
.confonto the app window. - Allow the VPN / system extension prompt in System Settings if macOS asks.
- Select the tunnel and click Activate.
The menu-bar WireGuard icon can Activate/Deactivate without opening the window. Visit vpnsafe.net/whats-my-ip to confirm the IP. Use a unique config for the Mac; do not reuse the iPhone QR on the Mac at the same time.
If Activate fails on a managed office Mac, a profile may block VPN. On home Wi-Fi that filters UDP, try OpenVPN TCP instead (see the OpenVPN on macOS article).
